Suame MP, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has strongly criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for its recent report exonerating former President John Dramani Mahama of any wrongdoing, calling it “scandalous.”
Last week, the OSP confirmed that Mahama had been identified as “Government Official One” in the international Airbus scandal but stated there was no evidence implicating him in any illegal activities.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) responded by reiterating their belief in Mahama’s innocence, insisting that nothing could tarnish their leader’s reputation.
However, in an interview with Angel FM in Kumasi, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu expressed a contrasting view, arguing that the OSP’s decision to clear Mahama was flawed. He pointed out that the OSP, which operates under the Attorney General’s authority, should not have closed the case, as ongoing investigations may reveal new information.
He emphasized that only a court has the legal authority to clear someone of wrongdoing and questioned the OSP’s reliance on assistance from courts in the U.S. and the U.K., noting that courts can only deliver rulings and are unlikely to provide additional evidence or witnesses.
